"Simply Red" Group Art Exhibit
The dA Center for the Arts
252-D South Main Street, Pomona, CA 91766

Opening Reception: Saturday Feb 11, 2012
Show run: Saturday at 12:00pm until Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:00pm

The dA Center for the Arts is proud to present the 25th Annual Simply Red group exhibition. For our first open show this year, the public has been invited to submit any art piece that explores some aspects of the color red. This exhibition will be on display February 11 through February 25, 2012. The dA will be hosting an opening reception during the Pomona Arts Colony Second Saturday Art Walk on February 11th from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Celebrating it’s 25th year, Simply Red has become a staple in the Pomona Arts Colony as well as the dA's most eagerly anticipated exhibition each year. The origins of the exhibition date back to the late 80's at the dA’s prior location. The aim was to find a theme for a group show in which everyone could participate while loosely coupling it with Valentines Day, its correlating holiday. Red was the resulting verdict, and the resulting show only required that submissions included at least one dot of red.

It has since grown to become the dA's longest running exhibition. It’s all inclusive nature made it the perfect setting for both new and seasoned artist to participate in year after year, as well as providing a setting for the entire Pomona Arts Colony to come together and celebrate the long lasting tradition.

"Beautiful Melodies Telling Me Terrible Things" A collection of images from Shannon Rowland's abstract portrait series. The show explores the two extremes that are often found in our personalities; dark & light and masculine & feminine. These works bring together these aspects and explore the multiple layers each can create in reflecting who we are as individuals. The images were created using layers of texture and color organically. This series was shot with no post processing or photoshop of any kind, all of the imagery was created in front of the camera. - I wanted to create beautiful images that were aesthetically pleasing and embodied a dark undertone.

Bleicher/Golightly Summer Studio Sale Series

www.santamonica.bgartdealings.

Opening Reception Studio Sale 1: Wednesday July 13th 6-10pm

Artists: Courtney Reid, Jarrod Lake Jaccobus, Shannon Rowland, Airom, Douglas Alvarez, Carol Powell, Leyla Akdogan, Raffi, Arman and Arghisti Musakhanyan, Michael Lloyd, Robyn Killian, Lark, Michael Chormick.

This summer, Bleicher/Golightly Gallery has opened its doors to a select group of artists to showcase their work in a similar approach to an artist’s “studio sale”. Like a traditional studio sale, the Summer Studio Series gives artists the opportunity to showcase unusual works that have slipped through the cracks between gallery exhibits and brand new works fresh off the easel.

During the course of the series, artists will bring work directly from their studios to the gallery and display it ‘studio style’ for three days. They will host their own studio sale event during this period. Artists will be encouraged to collaborate with other artists and regular gallery goers, create work at the gallery, and develop interactive ‘work-in-progress’ projects.

Bringing artists’ studio works to the gallery is a nice break from the gallery’s more formal exhibit schedule and has a sense of irony given that a studio sale is sometimes an attempt by an artist to bypass the gallery system. The gallery will choose works from each display to be placed aside from the sale. At the end of the Summer Studio Series, these reserved works will be featured in a silent auction and group exhibit.

In Association with Month of Photography Los Angeles (MOPLA), Bleicher/Golightly and Blue Five Gallery, are pleased to present “Scapes,” a two-gallery exhibit comparing contemporary photographs with contemporary paintings. Stemming from the landscape tradition, the exhibit features works that have strong roots in traditional landscape approaches, while pushing the genre into more subjective, conceptual and expressive territory.

“Scapes” is a unique dialogue of photography and painting that reconciles contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Many of the photographers employ approaches more common to painters, as can be seen in the mist of colors drifting over Jeff Alu’s haunting barren scenes. In contrast painters Danielle Eubank and Michelle Nielsen capture frozen moments in an environment more common to photography. David Skinner will for the first time combine elements of his sought after rural California scenes with his introspective personal series.

A comparison of photography and painting, the traditional and contemporary, the subject and the environment, “Scapes” promises to be both appealing and controversial to lovers and followers of each genre. The exhibit will take part across two galleries and a separate reception and events will be held at each gallery. See bgartdealings.com for the full exhibit schedule.
